In recent times, studies in quantum physics have greatly advanced, and consequently, the world of quantum physics has displayed so many unusual and bizarre properties that have made scientist very uneasy as it has brought about questions that conventional understanding of physics cannot answer, experimental results that seem to practically shatter all of the laws of physics.
This quirkiness has prompted scientists to deeply question the true nature of the universe, and for so long a factor that has proven to be somewhat fundamental, but for some reason has never been considered, has now been given the attention it deserves. And this factor is “Consciousness”.
What is the theory of Biocentrism?
In 2007, Robert Paul Lanza, a prominent American medical doctor, and scientist, currently the head of Astellas Global Regenerative Medicine developed the theory of BIOCENTRISM, this theory basically initiates the conceptualization of a biocentric universe, and the term “biocentric” means that the perceived nature of the “universe” is based and centered upon our biological consciousness. You can break the term “biocentric” into two parts to better understand it, “centric” meaning-centered upon or based upon, and then “bio” meaning life and its associated state of consciousness.
The idea is that the universe as we know it exists in nature and a state that is impossible to conceive of without the interaction of our conscious mind and programmed laws of perception. This means that our consciousness greatly affects the way we observe the universe. But according to quantum physics and its laws, “A particle has no defined properties and characteristics until measured or observed, that means that it is a state of superposition”. This is also known as the “Uncertainty Principle”. Particles in space and time exist in a state termed “superposition”. This state is what gives birth to what is termed the “wave function” of the electron. The wave function of the electron is the probabilistic distribution of the possible positions occupied by an electron in the electron cloud of an atom at any given point in time. In the famous hypothetical experiment performed by Erwin Schrodinger, Schrodinger’s cat's experiment, after both the cats have been put in the boxes with the bomb, the probabilities that exist are (A) both cats A and B are alive, (B) both cats A and B are dead, (C) Cat A is alive and cat B is dead, or (D) Cat B is alive and Cat A is dead. Being that we are uncertain of the current states of the cat, the laws of quantum physics allows us to eliminate options A and B, what we are left with are options C and D, a combination of these two probabilities puts the cats in “superposition”. The reason why this state is being emphasized is that the theory of biocentrism makes reference to this state as the ubiquitous state of the universe. Therefore we’re not “observing an already created and structured universe, but by virtue of our consciousness interacting with the superposed state of a universe existing in a zero-dimensional space without time, we are actually creating the universe every time we try to observe it”.
